Check out what I observed:
1. Point out specific people who play a key role in your success
- Jared shared his success with others by publicly acknowledging key personnel
- Jared recognized that nobody is a success by themselves
- You can bet these individuals will follow you forever
2. Weave the perspective you’ve gained into helpful solutions for others
- I met John, who lost his leg to cancer in high school, but went on to become a para-Olympic downhill skier. His song was titled “The Fight”.
- I met Jared’s wife, who inspired his song “Here With You”.
- I learned about a girl who was bullied so badly in school she ended up in the hospital with depression, but she overcame. “January Snow” was written about her.
- These individuals proudly brought all their friends and family members to hear Jared perform the songs written about them…that’s one of the reasons I was there!
3. Show gratitude to everyone who supports you
- From the adults to the kids at the event, Jared made everyone feel welcome
- One of my friends received an autographed poster and a personal thank you from Jared for the help they offered
- Saying “Thank You” works wonders
4. Give your followers something to come back for
- Jared gave us a sneak preview of his kids’ CD coming out this spring
- Yep, you guessed it, those who create a great following are always promoting what’s next
I was impressed with the importance of truly connecting with the individual on the other side of the electronic device. It challenged me to make sure my social media posts incorporate all of these great elements on how to create a following on Facebook, Twitter and any other social media venue.
In fact, I’ve noticed that for the social media accounts we manage, posts that include a real connection get way more likes and comments.
